Intended to replace manual patch cord bays, this unit is designed for switching RS-530 type signals. Traditionally, RS-530 is a mix of differential (422) and single-ended (TTL) digital signals. Since there is no precise standard for RS-530 (and many are "custom" proprietary), there are a mix of uses and signal directions installed abroad.
Fortunately, the S24530 can be easily configured by selecting the appropriate digital switch core and DTE/DCE I/O cards. The unit can be configured as small as a 3x3 matrix, to as large as a 24x24 matrix. Either the DCE or DTE axis of the matrix can be configured in increments of 3 ports. Eliminating manual patch bays and patch cords, the System S24530 is a digital switch array specifically designed for routing multi-level type signals such as RS-530. Fully populated, this unique unit contains 24 DTE ports that can be connected to 24 DCE ports. All RS-530 signals are routed on the DB25 connectors. The unit is configurable from 3x3 to 24x24 in independent (DCE, DTE) increments of three ports.
The 5RU rack mount unit can be populated with up to eight DCE cards and eight DTE cards, with each containing 3-ports. These cards install at the rear of the unit with the ports rear facing. All modules are secured to the unit with stainless hardware for rugged and trouble free operation. For less than fully populated configurations, filler plates complete the user configuration to keep the fan assisted cooling system working at top efficiency. The digital switch core cards are installed behind the hinged front panel (up to eight cards).
The front panel includes a VF display and keypad with menu driven operation. The keypad may be pass-code locked to prevent unintentional operation. The unit can be configured with one or two (full redundant) hot-swappable plug-in control CPUs. Each CPU includes an LXI 10/100 Ethernet port (with web browser), a USB 2.0 port, and a muli-serial port (RS-232C, RS-422A & RS-485). Self-monitoring hot-swap plug-in power supplies are standard with an independent and redundant design. The unit has independent dual AC power inputs designed for any international AC power source..
